Gratitude gives you a presence of mind. If you are in motion, things happen quick. Life is happening right under your nose but you could be missing it because you are waiting for something magical to happen. Worse, you could be thinking nothing good is happening in your life.
We have been asked to give thanks always. In the good and the bad that happens in our lives we must say “thank you”.
It sounds simple right? To give thanks always and in all things? Wait until life deals you a hard blow then we are back at complaining and cursing life.
At my cousin's funeral I read 1 Thessalonians 5:18. My cousin was killed on duty as a police officer while battling criminals with gunfire. I didn't realise the gravity of what I was asking his wife, children and mother to do. You must give thanks even when someone murders your beloved? To give thanks when things are going well, sure we can all do that. To give thanks when things are going south and you did nothing to deserve it? I am wrestling with this command. I can't fully wrap my head around it.
One thing for sure gratitude makes you present. It compels you to live in the moment. In your moments of thankfulness you are forced to take stock of all things that are happening in your life. Your life is the one that you are living right now. If you are not present you could miss it because you are still waiting for some grand life that is still coming. More presence this season as you enter into more thankfulness.
Catch yourself when you complain, you have no joy to lose in this month of December. Don't be absent.Mind your business, drink water (lots of water) and give thanks.

"Gratitude gives you a presence of mind"
What a powerful statement!!!!
In my day to day living, I've observed that gratitude and forgiveness, when put together, these two make a powerful combination (please note that I have not made any scientific research, this is just personal observation).
Nothing can ever be right in the future, because when the future comes, it's the present moment.
It is therefore of utmost importance to have a good relationship with the present moment.
Let's continue on the path of righteousness by expressing gratitude for small little things and forgiving "voor die voet"(endlessly).
