Here is interesting except from a novel by Ahmadou Kourouma called Waiting for the wild beasts to vote.
This piece of literature describes the difference between leaders and followers in the most compelling way. The focus will be on what to do to find fulfillment as a leader.
There are two forms of destinies in this world.
There are those who clear a path through the dense undergrowth
of life and those who follow paths already laid.
The former faces obstacles and mysteries.
In the morning they are damp with the dew, for it they who are to part
the tangled grasses.
The latter follow paths already weathered, follow paths now commonplace;
they follow ways of their teachers ,their masters.
they know nothing of the dampness of the morning dew, of obstacles
to overcome.
or mysteries of dark nights , the mysteries of infinite space.
their quandary is to find their man of destiny.
The man of destiny is he whom they must follow if they are to find true fulfillment, if they are to be truly happy.
It is never easy to find one’s man of destiny and one is never certain
that one has found him.
The former(leaders), those who hack a path through the morning brush, who clear a path, who pioneer, they too have a quandary,
a difficulty: knowing when to stop and knowing your limitations;
neither going beyond nor stopping short of their point of balance.
At their point of balance they are content, they have exactly what they require, neither more nor less.
they are completely fulfilled.
Stopping short, they become sick with jealousy,
unhappy that they have energy to spare, frustrated that they are constantly
under-employed.
Beyond that point they suffer because they are inadequate, incapable, overworked.
It is never easy to find one’s own limit; one is never certain that they have found it.
Most people die without ever finding out what their limit is
many of us have a habit of stopping short from the limit.
A little bit of pain and struggle we stop taking it as a sign that we cannot
continue.
The initial discomfort indicates you have left the comfort zone.
The question still remains, how does one find his own limit?
The only way to find one limit is to cross the line.
Only after you have crossed the line , you will know your limit.
After finding your limit you have to reside there not going below
or over the limit.
You true potential lies at the edge of your limit.
At the edge there is fulfillment.
Below the edge: regret and frustration.
Over the edge: complaints and exhaustion.
You will know your breaking point after being broken.
Practical ways to locate your limit:
Deliberate overload
When you intentionally go past your known range, you discover where things start to break down—physically, emotionally, mentally.
Athletes call this "training to failure."
Artists call it "creative burnout."
Leaders call it "stretch goals."
Run one more kilometer.
Write one more page.
Speak for five more minutes in your presentation.
Study an extra chapter.
Sustained consistency
repetition reveals your ceiling.
Repeat a task over and over again to see how long you can keep it up.
when you get bored, tired in a few days that is your limit.
If you find easy, do more.
Sustainability is often a more accurate measure of your real limit than a one-time push.
Play a high stakes game
If you don’t risk much then you don’t dare much.
In moments of pressure, your true capacity is revealed.
Parts of yourself that routine never touches are exposed.
Stillness and deep reflection.
In silence our truth is revealed.
Journaling, meditation and solitude can help us find our internal boundaries.
Being present is of the utmost importance.
Creative experiments.
Try something new and step into unfamiliar territory.
Your edges appear quickly when you are outside of your element.
Stay on the path of righteousness and be triumphant always.
I love you all.
